£3.9M FOR BRAND NEW BRIGHTON

	Plans for the redevelopment of New Brighton have been boosted by a £3.9 million investment from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).

The investment will enable Neptune Developments and Wirral Council to take forward phase 2 of Brand New Brighton, a scheme which aims to deliver a mixed use development along the town's waterfront that will include a range of new retail and leisure amenities.

The NWDA's investment in phase 2 will support land remediation and the delivery of a series of integrated public realm improvements across a 14 hectare stretch of the New Brighton seafront. These improvements will include a new model boating lake and associated car parking provision, high quality promenade, including new hard and soft landscaping works and improved access points and improved lighting and seating along the promenade area.

Phase 2, which will lever a further investment of £33.6 million from Neptune Developments, will build on the first phase of the programme which received a £3.6 million investment from the NWDA via the Mersey Waterfront Programme towards the £11 million new Floral Pavilion theatre and conference centre, which was successfully delivered by Neptune Developments.

The delivery of Phase 2 of the project will:

• Create 714 new jobs through a series of new retail and leisure facilities by 2012.
• Attract 6 new businesses to New Brighton
• Deliver 20,667 sq m of new floorspace through the new retail and leisure facilities created
• Deliver a programme of public realm and environmental improvements across a 14ha site.

Other elements of Brand New Brighton include a major foodstore, hotel, upgraded marine lake and sailing school facilities, an outdoor lido and commercial and leisure facilities including a cinema, fitness centre, restaurants and bars.

Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the NWDA, said:

"Brand New Brighton is the largest single transformational project in the wider Mersey Waterfront Regional Park initiative and a significant signature project for the Liverpool city-region.

The NWDA's investment in Phase 2 of the programme will build on the achievements of the first phase of the project, which delivered the stunning floral pavilion, supporting the delivery of a mix of commercial, retail and leisure uses that will boost the town's economy and capitalise on its prime waterfront location."

Wirral Council Leader, Cllr Steve Foulkes, said:

"This investment by the NWDA is fantastic news for Wirral and is a demonstration of the Agency's commitment to the regeneration of New Brighton. Phase One has delivered real benefits to the town already via the Floral Pavilion and I'm looking forward to Phase Two and the exciting opportunities it will bring. At a time of such economic uncertainty it is also a testimony to the hard work undertaken by both Council Officers and Members that we are continuing to deliver on the objectives set by Wirral's Investment Strategy."
